The Overall Knife of the Year was Kershaw’s Tyrade (Model 1850). The big news is the Tyrade’s patent-pending composite blade in which two steels are fused together for optimal performance and value. It features a durable spine of 154CM, plus a cutting edge of CPM-D2 for extreme sharpness. In the future, Kershaw will use the technology developed for the Tyrade to fuse other steels together so that every knife can have the very best steel on the cutting edge with a standard steel spine in order to keep the costs down. For a dramatic look, the Tyrade features irregular carbon fiber inlays in the big and beefy handle. The handles are built of titanium with a zirconium carbo-nitride coating for top performance. The Tyrade comes with a removable pocket clip. It is made in the USA.

Designed by Ken Onion for Kershaw Knives, the new Tyrade (Model 1850) has features that’ll have knife enthusiasts raving.

With Kershaw’s new patent-pending composite blade technology, the Tyrade delivers exactly the steel you need where you need it. The spine features an extremely tough, high-temperature alloy (originally designed for jet engines)—154CM stainless steel. But the cutting edge is built of CPM-D2 for precision sharpening, corrosion resistance, and toughness. These two steels have been fused together.

And once you get beyond the function, there’s the dramatic form. Carbon fiber inlays in the handle and on the blade provide for a one-of-a-kind look that you’ll be proud to own. For ease of use, the Tyrade has a big, beefy handle with zirconium carbo-nitride coating for a durable finish.

Even better, the Tyrade features our patented Ken Onion SpeedSafe? assisted opening system for smooth, easy opening. The Tyrade’s one-handed, index-finger opening design makes it smooth and easy to deploy—for both left- and right-handed customers. A frame lock ensures the blade stays securely in place until the user closes it. A removable pocket clip is also included.

Knife users who appreciate a uniquely styled, high-performance knife—and a Ken Onion design—are sure to want to have a Tyrade themselves. This top quality, limited production knife retails for $350. The Tyrade measures 5 inches closed and weighs 6.7 ounces.

The Tyrade is built to maintain Kershaw’s worldwide reputation for quality and innovation. The company prides itself on using the highest quality materials and state-of-the-art techniques to produce knives and other cutting tools that are prized throughout the world.
