Amanda's First Bull Elk
Amanda L with her first bull elk. Amanda is an 18 year old college student and took her first bull in October, 2006 while hunting the Lookout Mountain unit in Eastern Oregon. She used a Savage .30-06 with a 168 gr. Barnes bullet to take the 6 point bull at about 200 yards. On the opening day Amanda and her boyfriend, Jared, were walking to where they expected elk to cross. Before they got there over 50 elk came out of a canyon. Jared shot a 5 point but Amanda saw the herd bull taking a different route. She got into position and was able to claim her prize. Amanda has hunted with her family for years and finally got to break her dry streak on elk. An interesting side note, Jared cleaned Amanda's elk and Amanda cleaned Jared's elk. The first time in her life she had cleaned an animal. Way to go Amanda!
DERAN'S BIGHORN SHEEP HUNT
Deran Dexter is 12 years old. He is the youngest hunter to ever receive a Bighorn Sheep hunting tag in Oregon as far as ODFW can tell. You are limited to one tag in a lifetime and you must draw for the tag. He shot his ram in the Hells Canyon Unit. The ram was green scored by Buck Buckner (a Boone and Crockett scorer) at 178 3/8. A 180 is Boone and Crockett and 170 or higher is Oregon record book. Deran shot his ram with a 7mm that was custom made for him. His scope was custom made and donated by Leupold.
The hunt was taped by FNAWS (Federation for North American Wild Sheep) and will be aired on the outdoor channel sometime in 2008 or 2009.
Bob's Alaska Moose Hunt
Bob got his moose on Sept. 8th, 2007 approx 55 miles North of Dillingham, Alaska. They estimate him at 3-4 yrs old 12-1400 lbs. The antlers measured 58". No communication of any kind other than sat phone or line of sight aircraft radio. The Safari Club Int'l Bend Chapter & Hunt of a Lifetime partnered to do this for him. This was definitely a hunt of a lifetime. Bob had been dealing with life threatening medical issues. He has now received a clean bill of health and is no longer undergoing treatments.
